Gerardo Barroso Alcalá was born on April 2, 1979. He worked as a still photography assistant for advertising and fashion before entering the Centro de capacitación Cinematografica(CCC) where he studied filmmaking with a specialty in Cinematography.

Since 2006 he has worked as a Director of Photography for independent fiction and documentary films and has recently been involved in some commercial film projects.

His work as a cinematographer has been exhibited at festivals such as Rotterdam, Berlin, San Sebastian, Rome, South by Southwest, Buenos Aires (BAFICI), Valdivia, Mar de Plata, Los Angeles (AFI), Morelia, Guadalajara, FICUNAM among others. .

In 2010 he was awarded the “Best Photography” award at the Guadalajara International Film Festival for the film “Las Buenas Hierbas.”

In 2013 he premiered at FICUNAM Calle López, a feature-length documentary co-directed with Lisa Tillinger, which won the Grand Jury Prize at FIFE 2013.

In 2015, the Feature Film “Yo” by Matias Meyer, in which he collaborated as Director of Photography, won the award for best film at the Morelia International Film Festival.

He has taught classes on CCC at the Film School of the University of Guadalajara as well as at the Escuela Superior de Cine.

Gerardo Barroso Alcalá trabajó como asistente de fotografía fija de publicidad y moda antes de ingresar al Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) donde estudió realización con la especialidad en Cinefotografía.

A partir de 2006 se ha desempeñado como Director de Fotografía a nivel profesional; su filmografía incluye más de 20 largometrajes de ficción y documental además de varios cortometrajes. Co dirigió el documental “Calle Lopez” junto con Lisa Tillinger.

Recientemente estrenó la serie “Mala Fortuna” para Amazon Prime.
